FROSTED DESIGNS JUNE BLOG HOP - GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday, June 28, 2013

I have super exciting news to share!!!!!!!!

Frosted Designs is having another Blog Hop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We had so much fun on our last one, we are doing it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hop runs from until July 3rd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, are you ready to have some fun?!??!  Good!!!!!!  Because the theme for this blog hop is............

GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!

The best part about this...........  pretty much anything that has to do with girls having fun qualities for this one!  We just want you to have fun!!!!!!!!!

Here are some ideas.........  Mums, daughters, girlfriends, sisters, mother-in-laws.  Could be any photo you've had with any other lady in your life.  A photo you have with mum on your wedding day, or you and your daughter on a holiday, even a party with the girlfriends, the list goes on.  If it's a card or an OTP project, it just has to be girly, the more girly the better.

Here is my take on this challenge.  The picture in the layout is of me and my sister :-)

There are TWO fabulous sponsors for the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Blog Hop...............

The first sponsor is Artsy Albums!!!!!!!!

My name is Traci and I have been creating scrapbooks since I was in high school. I have also been married to my high-school sweetheart for 24 years and we have two wonderful boys -- one in college and one in high school.

After a 17 year career in the pharmaceutical industry that just didn't tap into my creative side enough, I retired and went to work in the scrapbook industry. I have enjoyed designing albums, store samples, classes, and kits so much that I recently decided to take a leap of faith and open my own company.  Artsy Albums is a product of a deeply rooted passion. After losing my mom to breast cancer when I was a teenager, I learned the importance of our memories, the pictures we take, and the stories that may never get told if we do not document them. I truly love to create beautiful albums that focus on the photos and the stories behind them. I also enjoy creating mini album kits that are fun to put together, easy, and affordable. If you love to scrapbook, try an Artsy Albums kit to create your next project!  I always welcome the opportunity to help you turn your photos into a keepsake that will be shared for generations.

They also have a facebook page - www.facebook.com/artsyalbums.

And the awesome prize they are offering...................

FROSTED DESIGNS FABULOUS FRIDAY CHALLENGE - POLKA DOTS

Thursday, June 27, 2013

Over at Frosted Designs there is currently a stunning challenge!!!!!!  IT'S ALL ABOUT POLKA DOTS!!!!!  You need to use Polka Dots on a card, layout or off the page project!

If you head over to the blog, you will see some wonderful project from the awesome Design Team, and that Polka Dots are not just for girls!!!!!

For my take on the challenge I used a Let's Scrap sketch that I have been eyeing for some time now.  But on the other hand, I have to confess, the pictures I used for this layout, I originally printed for another sketch, but I just could not resist to use this sketch, in the end!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is my layout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used the polka dots on the background paper, the accent paper on the left hand side of the layout (behind the main picture) and on the banner.  I loved making this layout and enjoyed it so much, because (for a change) everything just came together so nicely!

The paper and embellishments I used is from Simple Stories' range - Life Documented.  This is definitely one of my favourite ranges!!!!!!!!  Here are some close-up pictures of the details.

The best part of this is that there is a prize up for grabs!!!!!!!!!!

Sponsoring us this week is the very well known Oh My Crafts.  Click on the link, because they have some wonderful specials going on right now, so don't miss out!!!!!!!!!

LET'S SCRAP SKETCH 6-26-13

It is Wednesday again and time for a brand new sketch at Let's Scrap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week the sketch was designed by the awesome and very talented Jennifer Russell.

Here is my take on the sketch!

I really enjoyed making this layout and using this sketch!  I had some left over scraps and bits&pieces of a very old My Mind's Eye Range that I decided to use with these hawaiian pictures of our little one.

Here are some close-up pictures of the detail.

It would be awesome if you could head on over to Let's Scrap and take part in the sketch this week!  There is an awesome Prime Lyric kit up for grabs sponsored by Scrapbooking @ Aquila.

Happy Scrappin' and really looking forward to seeing your layouts!!!!!!!!!!

LET'S SCRAP SKETCH 6-12-13

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

There have really been some awesome sketches at Let's Scrap lately, starting off with this sketch designed by Rachel Myerson.

Here is my take on her sketch.

I really enjoyed the sketch and the fact that it had space for landscape and portrait photos.

The paper I used for the layout was a range from Kaisercraft which I bought about three years ago and always knew I would be able to use it someday.  I really loved all the farm animals they had as part of the range.  I did not get to use it on this layout, but at least I got to use some of the papers :-)  Here are some close-ups of the detail.

Hope you enjoyed the post and thank you for the visit!

So be sure to join us all month long as we celebrate our 3rd Annual - Mad About Sketches over at Cookin' Up Creations.

TUTORIAL TUESDAY AT FROSTED DESIGNS

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Hello fellow scrappers.

It is my turn to host the Tutorial Tuesday over at Frosted Designs, and how exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today I am going to share with you how to us Alcohol Inks!!!!!!!!!!!

So what are Alcohol Inks?  They are a Tim Holtz product by Adirondack and they come in all colours imaginable.  These inks are permanent, fast drying, transparant, acid free, dye inks and can be used on ANY shiny surface from glossy paper, acetate, glass, foil, shrink plastic and any metallic embellishments!!!!!!!!!!!  Colours can be mixed or lighted with alcohol blending solution.  They are wonderful for changing the colour of things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be showing you today how to use alcohol inks on a glazed piece of chipboard.

You will require the following:

  • Alcohol inks;
  • Mixatives;
  • Alcohol blending solution; and
  • Blending tool

I decided to espresso and latte alcohol inks, with the pearl mixative for my chipboard piece.

I started with the espresso colour and added a few drops to my blending tool, I then added the latte and finally a few drops of the pearl mixative.  Once I added all the colours to the blending tool, I added the blending solution so that the colours can blend together.

Once all the colours have been mixed and blended on your blending tool, you can "swipe" or bad it over the piece of chipboard.

By going over the chipboard a few times, you will in be able to get the colour that you require.  If you would like to make the colour lighter, all you need to do is add some more blending solution.

Here is what the final layout looks like and a close-up of the piece of chipboard once competed.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, and will be able to use some alcohol inks or your future layouts, cards and projects!

Happy Scrappin'

Here is my take on the sketch!   And I used some butterflies, for my items with wings.

I am a big fan in using a set of paper and embellishments from the same range.  For this layout, I decided to use a mixture between papers I had from Fancy Pants and SassaFras.  In the end I really loved the way it turned out and how the different papers from the various ranges compliment one another.  The embellishments are all from my stash.  Here are some close-ups.
