Friday, January 31, 2014

Happy Friday everyone!

Over at Frosted Designs Lisa is hosting the Fabulous Friday Challenge this week!  The challenge this Friday is a frosty one using this mood board as inspiration for your project.

Do you have the winter blues?  Chase them away with some scrappy time, create a project using this mood board as inspiration for your project.  Whether you are inspired by the colours, the pictures or just the overall mood, these images and colours portray, get creative and let us know what thing or things from this board inspired you!

For my project I made a layout that was inspired by the colours in the mood board, even though my layout does not have a winter feel at all (to be honest, the pictures were taken in January, the middle of summer here in South Africa).  I used the white from the snow, the blue from the cup, the green from the leaves and yellow from the light.  Here is my layout.

So, what are you playing for in this challenge?????

That's right, Frosted Designs is hosting this challenge!!!!  We are going to let one lucky winner do a little shopping!  And with all the new manufacturers we have in the store, you are sure to find something you like!

FOOTLOOSE & FANCY FREE WITH MY MIND'S EYE

Thursday, January 30, 2014

Hello there, today I want to share a layout I created using the Cut&Paste collection from My Mind's Eye!

I loved the colours of this collection and the fact that it is really such a "boyish" collection!  The pictures in the layout is from Jonathan's Cake Smash for his first birthday.  But as you can see from the expression on his face he was not impressed AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!  Unlike most children that really dig in and smash that cake, he did not want to have anything to do with it.  Other than a finger lightly touching the cake, and the pulling of the face, there was NO cake smashing!!!!!!!!!!

I loved how I could use the white cardstock and blue patterned paper as the background, but then also include the various patterns on layout, without it being over the top and too much!

As part of the collection, there was Decorative Chipboard buttons.  I used a combination of those as well as one or two buttons I had in my stash. To round them off, I just threaded some white thread through the holes.

When I did the banner under the main photo, I used some of the flags from the collection and the others I made using washi tape.  I finished it off with some bakers twine and brads.

And lastly, for the title I used one of the die-cut stickers and included some hand stitching.

All of the products I used in my layout are available in the Frosted Designs store and then best part is - they are ON SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  So pop on over to the store and quickly!!!!!!!  The kits are on sale along with other great products.  These include 20% of all Authentique products, including the new Flourish and Suave Lines (Exp. 2-3-14) and all single bottles of Dylusions Spray Inks are 15% off (Exp. 2-3-14)!  There are also LOADS of new CHA products coming soon!  So make sure you stop on over and fill up your cart!  I cannot wait for my order to arrive that I placed earlier this week to start playing!!!!!!!!

I hope I have inspired you today!

100% FUN WITH FROSTED DESIGNS

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having an awesome day so far!

Today I will be showcasing a layout I made using the Simple Stories Say Cheese collection. I really enjoyed this collection and had so much fun with it! The best part of this is that it has some of my favourite colours in - red, white and black.  There is just something about those colours that look awesome together.  And then you add the yellow and it just uplifts the whole layout!  (I must confess, I never use to like yellow, but lately I love to bring in some yellow).  The pictures are two selfies that I took of myself and Jonathan - they are not two of the greatest, but I just loved the expression on his face!

I really love the embellishment sheets that come with the simple stories ranges!  They are so fun and easy to work with.  I used the chipboard balloons and cut a piece from one of the papers to use as a die-cut.

I also included some washi-tape with some hand stitching.

The banner is also from the chipboard elements, as well as the sticker to the left of the photos.

I added some buttons and more hand stitching to the "pie-chart" that was also cut from the papers.

For my title I just used some black letters that I had in my stash.

On top of the "pie-chart" I included a little wooden heart to give it some dimension.

This was a quick and easy, with no fuss layout which I really enjoyed making and loved the way it turned out in the end!

All the products I used you can get from the Frosted Designs store, just click HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you have an awesome day filled with tons of inspiration!

PROJECT LIFE INSPIRED SCRAPBOOKING

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Lately there is this huge excitement in the scrapbooking world about Project Life.  I know Project Life has been available in the US for quite a while, but unfortunately here in South Africa, it is still relatively new.  it is only recently that we have been able to get the products here.

I have been very lucky that Barb from Frosted Designs have decided to showcase Project Life Inspired projects to showcase some of the products we have in the store and to show you how you can use your Project Life products along with your other scrapbooking stash.

So first things first - What is Project Life?  And what is it all about?

Several years ago Becky Higgins had a hard time keeping up with the memory-keeping that she wanted to do.  So she solved the problem by developing a system that works, and now  Project Life® is available to everyone, everywhere.  Project Life provides an ultra-simple solution that helps us get those pictures into albums without draining out time, energy and wallets.  The idea is simple: photos + memorabilia + journaling  together in an album - everything slips into pockets.  No requirement to cut or glue or embellish a thing.  And yet - the results are stunning!  Project Life is back-to-basic scrapbooking at its finest.

What I wanted to do is to use the Project Life concepts but incorporate other scrapbooking collections as well as techniques that I use in scrapbooking everyday.  Some of the collections that work awesome for Project Life is Simple Stories, Echo Park and even Kaisercraft!  By ding come cutting, their papers fit right into Project Life pockets.

I decided to start with Project Life because of our little boy.  He has just turned 16 months old and I have TONS of pictures (I took 11 402 during 2013.....................).  I would really LOVE to be able to scrap them all, but I just do not have the time..............  So I decided on Project Life to showcase his first year day by day.

So here is my very first Project Life layout which is the first page of Jonathan's Project Life album.  These are the two first pictures that were taken of Jonathan at his birth.  I include his name, some journaling about how we decided on his name, along with the statistics of his birth on this page.  I also used some stickers and decorative brads.

Products Used
Echo Park Bundle of Joy - Boy Journaling Card
Echo Park Bundle of Joy Alpha Stickers
Echo Park Bundle of Joy - Decorative Brads
Project Life Baby Boy Mini Kit

For my next page I used pictures of all the flowers and gifts we received with his birth.  Along with the papers I also used some other scrapbooking techniques.  These include washi tape flags with a pearl finish; hand stitching; I cut out one of the sayings from the Simple Stories papers and added that to a Project Life card.
